It’s a pity to be doing music in Ghana – Backup vocalist cries out

Ghanaian award winning backup vocalist and composer, Nana Ama Dadzi, has stated that doing music in Ghana will only end in regrets.

According to her, the Ghanaian system is bad with only a few musicians benefiting from it.
In an interview with Mercy Bee the Ekumfi Princess on e.tvGhana’s ‘Girl Vibes Show’, she said, “I don’t know if things will change or when it will change but, what I know is that if you what to live on music in Ghana you won’t survive.”

She blames the MUSIGA board but, also some musicians and believes if things will change then, musicians need to change their attitudes as well.

“If they don’t appreciate the people, they made their music withthen we will continue to be where we are. Some musicians feel the backup vocalist’s place is in the studio and that’s it hence, they treat them as such and it is sad because we don’t get what we deserve,” she said.
However, she noted that outside Ghana and even in neighboring countries, backup vocalists are treated and paid so well and also appreciated by artistes.

Nana Ama revealed that throughout her career as a backup vocalist, the most she’s been paid was paid to her by a Liberian musician.
She advised people especially, ladies who want to go into music to go through the right processes and also brace themselves as it is not as easy as it might seem to them.
